Tender is the Night

Tender is the Night

F. Scott Fitzgerald's last completed novel, Tender is the Night is edited by Arnold Goldman with an introduction and notes by Richard Godden in Penguin Modern Classics.Between the First World War and the Wall Street Crash the French Riviera was the stylish place for wealthy Americans to visit. Among the most fashionable are psychoanalyst Dick Diver and his wife Nicole, who hold court at their villa. Into their circle comes Rosemary Hoyt, a film star, who is instantly attracted to them, but understands little of the dark secrets and hidden corruption that hold them together. As Dick draws closer to Rosemary, he fractures the delicate structure of his marriage and sets both Nicole and himself on to a dangerous path where only the strongest can survive. In this exquisite, lyrical novel, Fitzgerald has poured much of the essence of his own life; he has also depicted the age of materialism, shattered idealism and broken dreams.F. Scott Fitzgerald (1896-1940) has acquired a mythical status in American literary history, and his masterwork The Great Gatsby is considered by many to be the 'great American novel'. In 1920 he married Zelda Sayre, dubbed 'the first American Flapper', and their traumatic marriage and Zelda's gradual descent into insanity became the leading influence on his writing. As well as many short stories, Fitzgerald wrote five novels This Side of Paradise, The Great Gatsby, The Beautiful and the Damned, Tender is the Night and, incomplete at the time of his death, The Last Tycoon. After his death The New York Times said of him that 'in fact and in the literary sense he created a "generation" '.If you enjoyed Tender is the Night, you might like Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's, also available in Penguin Classics.'One of the most wonderful writers of the twentieth century'Financial Times

Ballistic Kiss

Sandman Slim is back in Los Angeles and kicking more supernatural ass in this inventive, high-octane page-turner-the next to last volume in the popular and acclaimed fantasy adventure series from New York Times bestselling author Richard Kadrey. As the battle between warring angels continues, James Stark is focused on seemingly simpler matters now that he's resurfaced on earth: an invasion of ghosts. L.A.'s Little Cairo neighborhood has suddenly been overrun by violent spirits, and Thomas Abbott knows if anyone can figure out why they've appeared - and how to get rid of them - it's Stark. Armed with the Room of Thirteen Doors, Stark quickly learns that the answer may reach back to the 1970s and the unsolved murder of small-time actor Chris Stein. As he begins to dig into the cold case, another area of Stark's life takes an unexpected turn when he becomes entangled with Janet, a woman he saved during the High Plains Drifter zombie attack. Janet's brush with the living dead hasn't quenched her thirst for danger. She's an adrenaline junkie and a member of The Zero Lodge - a club that promises 'there's zero chance you'll get out alive'. The Lodge attracts thrill seekers who flock to perilous events such as night walks through the L.A. Zoo - with its deadliest animals uncaged. Joining the lodge to be with Janet, Stark makes a pair of crucial discoveries that could decide the fate of L.A. and Heaven itself. To prevent the Little Cairo haunting from consuming the city, Stark must piece together the connections between the Lodge and a missing angel last seen in a Hollywood porn palace. But while he may dispatch the ghosts, Stark knows that without his help, the bloody war in Heaven could rage forever.

Daytrading the Market

So I get it you hate your miserable existence. You hate your JOB. You hate your boss that SOB. You hate driving in traffic. You hate especially that guy at work. Yeah, I feel it for you. If I can get my hand through the screen I'd give him "a Bruce Lee kind of a back spin knockout punch." Well, don't take me wrong. I am not rubbing it on you to make you feel bad, just "sayinga." Can you imagine living the life of your dreams? Not worrying about money or any other nasty feeling like that. You are on the top of your game. Sailing the Caribbeans in your 50 foot sail boat. The sun is high and you can see the sun rays dancing in the water. Turquoise green water, pearl white beaches. In a matter of fact you are sooo close to Necker Island "you know that place." If you haven't heard about it check it out. You can eve drop a visit to Richard Branson in his little cool island paradise thingy. You are drinking from something that requires a small umbrella on top. The water is crystal clear. You can see all the way to the bottom of the riff and the sea is busting with life and colors. The wind just picked up and you have to do slight work and adjust the sails. No amount of this kind of work will break you up. You enjoy it so much, you would work for free. A smaller boat passes by. The friendly captain waves at you and wishes you "Bon voyage." You are approaching the final destination for the day. A cozy cool marina on Tortola island. The slip is ready for you. The dock master does his little trick a half hitch and whatever other magic and the boat is safely secured to the dock. Contrary to all "Forex Lifestyle Myths" the hardest thing about trading at remote places is not taking the trades, but finding a good WiFi. But you've been on this island so many times and know the perfect place to trade. You pull up to the small marina bar. Open your comp and I can't help but see the big smile on your face. All the trades you execute in the morning pinned up and your account is coup...

Wordsworth

Wordsworth

Wordsworth is a classic biography of the great English romantic poet, William Wordsworth, by F. W. H. Myers. William Wordsworth (7 April 1770 - 23 April 1850) was a major English Romantic poet who, with Samuel Taylor Coleridge, helped to launch the Romantic Age in English literature with their joint publication Lyrical Ballads (1798). Wordsworth's magnum opus is generally considered to be The Prelude, a semi-autobiographical poem of his early years that he revised and expanded a number of times. It was posthumously titled and published, before which it was generally known as "the poem to Coleridge."Wordsworth was Britain's poet laureate from 1843 until his death from pleurisy on 23 April 1850. The second of five children born to John Wordsworth and Ann Cookson, William Wordsworth was born on 7 April 1770 in Wordsworth House in Cockermouth, Cumberland, 3] part of the scenic region in northwestern England known as the Lake District. His sister, the poet and diarist Dorothy Wordsworth, to whom he was close all his life, was born the following year, and the two were baptised together. They had three other siblings: Richard, the eldest, who became a lawyer; John, born after Dorothy, who went to sea and died in 1805 when the ship of which he was captain, the Earl of Abergavenny, was wrecked off the south coast of England; and Christopher, the youngest, who entered the Church and rose to be Master of Trinity College, Cambridge. 4] Wordsworth's father was a legal representative of James Lowther, 1st Earl of Lonsdale and, through his connections, lived in a large mansion in the small town. He was frequently away from home on business, so the young William and his siblings had little involvement with him and remained distant from him until his death in 1783. 5] However, he did encourage William in his reading, and in particular set him to commit to memory large portions of verse, including works by Milton, Shakespeare and Spenser. William was also allowed to use his father...
